Tide Flows

This page shows the nearest UK HO tide stream locations (diamonds) to the tide port selected on the previous screen.   To see other diamonds around the UK, go back to the tides page and select a port near the location you are interested in.

The page opens up with the nearest diamond pre-selected on the map.  Use the map to zoom in and out and select any diamond by tapping on it.  The UK HO diamond name is shown together with the diamond’s latitude and longitude.

For the selected diamond, the app shows a graph of the tide flow speed over the day at 5 minute intervals.   Slack water times are indicated on the chart by the vertical dashed blue lines together with the time of the start of minimum stream speed.   

Tap on the graph and swipe the orange line left to right to see the detailed speed and direction for each of the 5 minute intervals in the centre section of the screen.  

Some tide diamonds have particularly complex tide flow dynamics, in some cases these are too complex to pinpoint every slack period, swiping the orange line will give a more accurate identification of slack periods.

A detailed graph is shown if your device is rotated to landscape.

The page downloads tide information from the Hydrographic Office in real-time so needs an internet connection via WiFi or a 3G (or above) mobile signal to operate correctly.
